Privacy Policy

StockArena is a free fantasy stock trading game. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who processes it on our behalf, and how to get it deleted. We do not sell your personal data.
1. What we collect
Account data. When you sign up, our authentication provider (Clerk) collects your email address, username, and password or social login. Clerk sends us your user ID, email address, username, and profile image URL, which we store in our database. We never receive or store your password.
Gameplay data. Portfolios you build, contests you enter, watchlist items, XP, credits, level, league standing, achievements, quests, learning progress, notifications, and login streak.
Technical data. Standard server and hosting logs (IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp) generated when you use the site, plus short-lived rate limiting counters keyed to your user ID.
Admin actions. If a StockArena administrator adjusts your account (for example a credit correction), we log the action, the administrator, and the stated reason.
We do not collect payment information, because the service is free.
2. Why we use it
- To create and secure your account and keep you signed in.
- To run contests, calculate returns, rank entries, and award virtual rewards.
- To show public leaderboards and profiles (see section 4).
- To send in-app notifications about your contest results and progress.
- To detect and prevent abuse, multi-accounting, and automated scraping.
- To diagnose errors and keep the service running.
3. Who processes data for us
- Clerk — authentication and account management.
- Neon — the PostgreSQL database holding your account and gameplay data.
- Upstash — Redis used for rate limiting and short-lived caching.
- Vercel — application hosting and server logs.
- Alpaca — market data. We send stock symbols to Alpaca. We do not send Alpaca any information about you.
These providers process data on our instructions. We do not sell personal data or share it with advertisers.
4. What other players can see
Your username, avatar, level, league, achievements, and contest results are public within the service — that is the point of a leaderboard. Your email address is never shown to other players. If you do not want a name to be public, choose a username that does not identify you.
5. Cookies
We use cookies that are strictly necessary to run the service: a session cookie set by Clerk to keep you signed in, and a preference cookie storing your light or dark theme choice. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
6. How long we keep it
Account and gameplay data is kept while your account is active. Notifications are pruned automatically — we retain roughly the 50 most recent per user. Rate limiting counters expire within minutes. When you delete your account, we delete your account and gameplay records within 30 days, except where we must retain something to comply with law or resolve a dispute. Aggregate, non-identifying statistics may be retained.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to complain to a data protection authority. To exercise any of these, email support@stockarena.app from your account address. We respond within 30 days.
8. Children
StockArena is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Security
Data is transmitted over TLS and stored with our providers named in section 3. Authentication is handled by Clerk, so we never store passwords. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your data we will notify you as required by law.
10. International transfers
Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, transfers rely on standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard offered by the provider.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date above.
